People want to know what you think

The big thing that I think most people underestimate when they are preparing their Estate Plan is ....... how much people want to know what you think.

Talk to any solicitor who has acted for an Estate, they will agree that families argue about this, and spend who knows how many hours pontificating about what songs you wanted at your funeral, what you wanted your child to spend their money on, or how you wanted to be remembered.

As part of your Estate Plan I ask you a lot of questions that probably feel like a tangent, and I ask you to do a lot of tasks that you might feel get in the way of 'just doing your Will'. The thing is, I know that just doing a Will isn't enough for your family. I want you to do more than that.

I also know that doing all of this as part of your Estate Plan is kind of overwhelming, which is why I have worked hard on creating a process that helps you to move through it at your own pace, in your own space.

Estate Planning is overwhelming

Preparing a Will when you have children comes with a lot of decisions, who should be the guardian for my children, what should I tell them, should they control the kids' trust, should they be a beneficiary of the trust, should I tell my family who I have chosen, should I tell my kids? What is a letter of wishes and how does it apply to my kids? Many of the steps we will talk about can be done by you, once you know why and how.

What if your kids are older, can you appoint a guardian for a 17 year old, or a 20 year old? What age should they be before they get the money? What if they need the money before that point?
