Car seats

How do I choose a guardian for my children? It is a big question, a question you hope will be academic and yet it is important to get this right. In March we are looking at the questions that you should ask yourself when making this decision.

Have you thought about car seats, and what does that have to do with your Estate?

Have you thought about short term things, like emergency considerations, does your Guardian pick up the kids or does someone else? Do they know that? Do they have seats? Are they registered with your child's school or daycare?

Have you thought about longer term needs if you die, like if you add your children to the guardian's existing family how many people is that? Would that many people fit in their existing car? Would they have to buy a new car and if so, who should pay for that?

There are a lot of things that you need to plan for, should the guardian control the kids’ trust, or be a beneficiary to the kids' trust (for things like motor vehicles) and then someone else control the trust?

Estate Planning is overwhelming

If you want to sort out a complete Estate Plan for an 'average' asset pool then talk to Janis, because she knows that Estate Planning is more than Wills. You don't have to transfer all of your assets into some sort of trust in order to have a great Estate Plan that makes life easier for your loved ones. You can book a free 15 minute phone call to find out how Janis can help by clicking on the link in the bio, or you can just call her on 0421 887 571.

And don't worry, yes it is a lot to think about but she has a system to help you move through all of that.
